People often ask us where we see outside.in in the larger media ecosystem, and the answer we’ve always said is that we envision the site occupying a new niche between the local bloggers (and other place-based online communities) and the traditional media of city newspapers, radio stations, or even some of the larger online portals. We want outside.in to amplify the voices of those local experts, by showcasing their best work, by organizing the content geographically, and by detecting interesting patterns in all that data.
We’ve always thought that those services would prove to be as interesting and useful to the traditional media sites as they have been to the bloggers, and so we’re happy to announce today our first official partnership, with CBS Radio and their flagship news site, 1010WINS.com. If you visit the NY borough pages for 1010WINS, you’ll see the latest top stories that outside.in has selected from the local bloggers in each area. We’re also running 1010WINS local stories through the New York pages of outside.in, directing them to place and neighborhood pages.
It’s a nice little win-win-win system: 1010WINS extends to incorporate the thriving local blogging scene in New York, the bloggers get more traffic, and outside.in enhances its reputation as a central source of hyperlocal content by partnering with the country’s most listened-to radio station. As you might imagine, it’s the kind of partnership that should make sense in many markets, so consider this a preview of coming attractions!
